Biography
Etienne Anker, a Swiss tenor from Les Diablerets, is currently honing his interpretative skills in a Master’s program in Musical Performance (concert orientation) under the tutelage of Stuart Patterson at the Haute École de Musique (HEM) in Neuchâtel.[1] Since July 2022, he also holds a Master’s degree in Music Pedagogy (voice) from the same institution. Alongside his studies at HEM, Etienne is further developing his talents as an opera singer under the guidance of Graeme Danby.
In March 2024, he took on the role of the Evangelist in St John Passion (J.S. Bach) in Geneva under the direction of Ton Koopman, in Fribourg with the Villars-sur-Glâne Vocal Ensemble and its director Jérôme Kuhn, and finally in Strasbourg with the Saint-Guillaume Parish Choir.
In April 2024, he sang the tenor solo parts in Rachmaninoff’s Vespers in Lens and Conthey, under the direction of Alain Carron.
He participated in the first NOF Academy and served as the understudy for the role of Ruodi (the fisherman) in Guillaume Tell (Rossini).
In 2023, Etienne won 3rd place in the Gianni Bergamo Classic Music Award, an international competition. That same year, he portrayed Benvolio in a concert version of Romeo and Juliet (Gounod) in Montreux and Geneva with the Orchestre de Chambre de Genève (OCG)[2]. He also performed as the Evangelist in The St. Matthew Passion in Strasbourg and Colmar with the Saint-Guillaume Parish Choir.
In 2022 at the Lausanne Opera, he played Monsieur Brühlmann In Werther He has also performed there multiple times in recent years as a chorus artist, including in The White Horse Inn (Benatzky), Le Domino Noir (Aubert) and Così fan tutte (Mozart).
He regularly sings with various Swiss ensembles, such as the Lausanne Vocal Ensemble, La Fontana Cantabile, and Aqua e Musica. He has also been involved in several projects with the Musique des Lumières orchestra and its director Facundo Agudin.
